Peace of Christ!
Greeting in the Lord Jesus! I hope you have not given up on checking the mailbox. Sorry to have taken a little long to answer your interesting letter. Thanks for sharing with me so much of your life and your joys. I knew you had that in you. I found your letter interesting because you are going to scholl in Washington, DC. When I graduated from Sacred Heart Academy I wentto liein Washington, DCand worked for the Navy on Constitution Avenue. I livd at the Potomac Plaza Apartments and walked to work each day. I met a lot of wonderful people, working for officers in all branches of the service. I also had surgery athe the Geore Washington Universtiy Hospital and my family all came to DC to see me. Anyhow, I have fond memories of the city and eating pizza at Luigi's etc. Then before I came to Carmel I moved to the N.E. not too far fromt he Immaculate Conception Shrine. So the places you mention ring bells with me nad bring back pleasant memories.
I find your studying of International Affairs quite interesting too. The world seems very complicated these days, especialy with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. For peace to come to the world, all must work for it together. It seems that our country has sacrificed much and surely God will bless America. we havea wonderful President who has been firm on the hard way to walk. Howver, God must be the One who guides and leads us. Only in Him can our country be truly blessed. We do not spend a lot of time reading the news, etc. but we get a few magazines and see the newspaper on occasion. However, we do our best to be informed so that we can pray for everyone in the world - asking God to bring His Kingdom on earth.
That is the reason for Carmel. I always say that God works fom the inside first. For the world to change, hearts must change and only prayer can do that. That is why Carmel is important and as St. Therese would say- our vocation is to be LOVE at the Heart of the Church and the world.
It sounds like you have a wonderful family. How interesting to be a twin. Do you and your sister have the same interests? Are you bot attending university together? That's great that you have the summer break to spend with your brothers and sister and your dear parents.
We are in the midst of the annual outdoor Noven to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. The weather has been soooo hot! The crowds are not as good as usual because of the intense heat. However, they tell us that it is supposed to break today and cool donw. I sure hope that it does. I don't blame people who don't go out when it is so hot because you can almost get sick. we contintue to be busy as the Archbishop fom Guam is ariving on Thursday, and will visit with us and have supper with us one evening. we are looking forward to meeting this wonderful Archbishop in person and then he will offer the Mass at the Novena and meet the people. We are remembering you and your family to Our Blessed Mother. She is such a sweet Mother that she will not foret any of her children, but takes our every care to her heart. May she watch over you, dear Elizabeth, and show you evermore her Divine Son- Jesus. today is the Feast of St. Terea of the Andes - a young Saint - who lived the joy of Jesus in her life. Sincerely in the heart of Jesus, Sister Mary Joseph.
