Poor Mrs. Sheehan

I am inclined to forgive Cindy Sheehan for permitting herself to be used as a tool of the far left. After all, she did lose her son. Her husband, I understand it, is divorcing her. And her relatives, including her other children, have more or less disowned her.

The socialists, pacifists, and other assorted activists who have surrounded her are a seductive support system. They are her new family. What Mrs. Sheehan does not seem to understand, is that the media attention will eventually evaporate. When the cameras disappear, the far left will have no more use for her. They will go too.

There will be no young hippy around to do her hair, no Al Sharpton to meet her in the morning. She will be all alone. And for this reason, among others, Mrs. Sheehan should be pitied, and not railed against.

Then again. The far left is not simply using her. They are also exploiting the death of a servant of the Armed Forces. Exploiting her son. And she is the one encouraging them.

I'm so glad you do not know how to spell "hippie." It is a positive sign that the phenomenon that blighted my early life is at last dying out.

Maybe you should question the "family values" of people who are so willing to leave another family member just because they don't hold the same right wing viewpoint. God forbid Cindy Sheehan should stand up for what she thinks is right and protest against unnecessary killing. It surprises me that as a wanna-be nun you aren't taught in your church about the evils of killing people. Then again, the Church does have quite a horrid history when it comes to non-violence, doesn't it?

against unnecessary killing.

Ah but there's the rub. Gliberals always make the same set of assumptions. First that all war is by its nature unjust and so all killing is "unnecessary" and therefore a tragedy. (Interesting how most of the NY Times-reading crowd are always quick to take the side of the enemies of freedom. Killing Sunni's with bombs strapped to their chests is always a worse "crime" than blowing up busloads of kids.) The second assumption is that they are so right that the possibility that anyone with a good will and a clear conscience would say something like, "no, I think there is considerable justification for the War in Iraq," is taken as a sign of mental instability or an evil nature. Hence, the irritation felt by anyone who does not spout the standard lefty dogmas. It is impossible to enter into the debate because the liberals start with the assumption that there is nothing about which to debate.

My advice, Elizabeth, is to block people who insult your Church and your Faith. Especially if they insult the Church with any of the exceedingly tired liberal anti-Catholic chestnuts like, the "long history of Catholic violence" yarn.

If you can't even come up with interesting and orignial insults...

Yes, the Church that produced people like Mother Theresa and St. Francis, suuuuch a horrrrrible record in terms of non-violence. I am trying to think of any other organization that has produced someone like Mother Teresa. The Republican Party certainly hasn't. Of course, neither have the Democratic Party, Moveon.org or the Communist Party USA.

If you are going to attack people who have "a horrid history when it comes to non-violence," stick to the "peace-loving" hippies who pillage and riot at the WTO meetings, or the "America-loving" Klansmen who chain people behind cars and drag them down the road.

PS. I don't mean this to be insulting - by "professionalstudent" do you mean that you have never left school!? In my experience most "professional students" are very intelligent people but they have problems with realistic perspective. Not all of them, by any means! Just most of them.

Again, I hope you're not offended, I'm just curious.
